Organic Lawn Care
Manual
The purpose of an organic lawn care
manual is to provide an individual who is interested in
switching from traditional methods to organic methods of lawn
care. The use of organic lawn care means that there will not be
any harsh chemicals used on the lawn which can be damaging to
the environment as well as humans and animals. Many times after
traditional lawn care companies get through fertilizing the
lawn you will see signs telling you to keep your pets and
children off of the lawn for at least a 24-hour period because
they could be harmed by the chemicals. When you read an organic
lawn care manual it will tell you how you can achieve the same
beautiful lawns that traditional lawn care companies have
without using any of those harmful chemical products.
Steps to Take
According to organic lawn care manuals the most critical
times of the year for your lawn care is during the spring and
early fall. In order to keep your lawn to set up and healthy
all year long there are just a couple of simple steps that you
need to take during these times of year. The first step that
you want to take is to cut your lawn short, to a height of 2
inches, the first time you cut it in the spring and the last
time you cut it in the fall. When you do this to your lawn in
the fall it helps to keep fungus from growing during the course
of those long winter months, and in the springtime, the
shortcut gets rid of in a fungus that might have grown on your
grass during those winter months.
One more really important step that you need to take in the
spring and early fall is to check your soil for nutrients that
it might be lacking. You can find the soil test kits in any of
the local gardening stores and they will allow you to test your
soil composition and determine what the deficiencies might be
so that you can apply the appropriate
fertilizers to correct the lacking deficiencies. When you know
what the deficiencies are, you need to make sure that you get
the right natural organic fertilizer which will correct the
lacking minerals. You also need to make sure that fertilizers
or slow releasing which means that they will be dispersed over
a long period of time, rather than a quick shot which could
burn your grass from over exposure.
You will also find that an organic lawn care manual will
tell you to test for grubs in your lawn in the early spring so
that they can be caught and killed while there are still larva.
You can test for this by pulling up a section of your lawn one
square foot wide and checking the roots. If you find that there
are grubs in your roots then you need to apply nematodes to
your lawn which will kill the larva. These nematodes are
microscopic worms which eat the grub larvae and they can be
bought through your gardening catalogues or at your local
organic gardening store.
